Sage Gold Rush Cocktail

Sage Gold Rush Cocktail is a perfect winter cocktail.  Honey is always soothing and beneficial this time of year.  Why not pair a little bourbon with a little honey to keep the winter colds at bay and the belly warm.

Did you know that honey is considered “local”  for 20 miles?  That is a long way for our little winged friends to travel!  We sell Bee Well Honey from Sagamore Beach.  And even better, they have active hives right here in Sandwich.

For the Honey Sage Syrup

1/2 cup local honey

1/2 cup water

1 oz fresh sage leaves, stems removed

For the Sage Gold Rush Cocktail

4 oz of your favorite bourbon

3 oz honey sage simple syrup

3 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 2 lemons)

  1. To make the syrup, combine honey, water and sage leaves in medium sauce pan over medium heat.  Let come to boil.  Remove from heat and let liquid cool.  Strain into jar or bottle with a lid, pressing sage leaves firmly to release liquid.  Leftover syrup will keep in fridge for about 1 month.
  2. To make the cocktail, combine bourbon, honey sage syrup, lemon juice and ice into shaker.  Shake vigorously and strain over ice in a high ball glass.  Garnish with sage leaf and lemon peel.
