August Thirsty Thursday Cocktail Recipes

A little bit of this, a little bit of that and a whole lot of cucumber this month!  But isn't that always the way?  Here are the following drink/cocktail recipes we will be serving up at Scenic Roots on August 18th. Remember the Garden Center will be open from 5:30-7:00 pm to sample cocktails inspired and made right from your gardens and for you to shop at will ;) This is a FREE event!Cucumber/Melon SangriaImage courtesy of Alanna Taylor Tobin | The Bojon GourmetIngredients•1 (750 ml) bottle dry white wine•3/4 cup gin•2 tablespoons superfine sugar•1/2 honeydew melon, cubed•1/2 seedless cucumber, sliced•1/2 cup packed fresh mint leaves•1 cup sparkling water or club sodaInstructions1. Combine all ingredients except sparkling water in a large pitcher and still well. Refrigerate at least 3 hours (more if possible).2. Just before serving, pour in sparkling water and gently stir to combine. Serve over ice.Lime/Lemongrass Limeadecucumber lime margServes: 6-8 servingsIngredients•1 cup white sugar•1 cup water•⅓ cup lime leaves (about 20 leaves)•¼ cup chopped lemongrass stalk•1 cup lime juice (for me, this was about 7 limes)•3 cups cold water + 1 cup ice•Lime wheels for garnish (optional)Instructions1.Combine the sugar, 1 cup of water, lime leaves, and lemongrass in a saucepan over medium heat. Allow the simple syrup to steep for 10 minutes. Strain the leaves and lemongrass pieces from the liquid. Let cool for 10 minutes.2.Combine the cooled syrup with 3 cups cold water and 1 cup of ice. Stir in the lime juice. Serve over ice with lime wheels (if desired).Fresh Lime & Jalapeno MargaritaFresh-Lime-and-Jalapeno-Margarita-Fed-Fit-10-660x994Yield: 2 servingsIngredients:•1/2 cup fresh-squeezed lime juice (no exceptions!)•1/2 large green jalapeno pepper, sliced thin•4 ounces silver tequila• 2 ounces honey•2 tablespoons sea salt•2 lime wedges for garnish•2 sprigs cilantro for garnish (optional)Directions:1.In the bottom of a pitcher, muddle the jalapeno slices with the lime juice. 10-12 presses with a muddler or back of a wooden spoon will do!2.Add the tequila and honey, stir to combine thoroughly - or until all the honey is dissolved.3.Pour the sea salt in the bottom of a small bowl. Dip the top of each glass in the margarita mixture, let it drain off, then press the top of the glass into the bowl of salt. Gently tap the glass with your hand to knock off any excess.4.Fill each glass with fresh ice and pour in the margarita mix.5.Garnish with the fresh lime and cilantro.6.ENJOY!
